New observations on global business under the impact of the epidemic
On September 20, 2020, Novaris Business Development Society released a special research report "Preliminary Observation of Changes in the Global Business Landscape in the Post-Epidemic Era". This is a special research topic launched by the Society in response to the profound impact of the COVID-19 epidemic on the global business environment. It aims to provide timely analytical reference for enterprises to understand and respond to this unprecedented challenge.
The report points out that the COVID-19 epidemic is not only a public health crisis, but also a catalyst for profound business changes. The epidemic has accelerated many already existing but slow-moving business trends, while also giving rise to some new business models and operating methods. The research team conducted tracking surveys on more than 500 companies in more than 20 countries and regions around the world and summarized the following key changes:
Five key changing trends
- Normalizing remote working:More than 60% of the companies surveyed said they would retain some remote working arrangements after the epidemic, and the hybrid office model has gradually become the new normal.
- The resurgence of supply chain localization:The epidemic has exposed the fragility of global supply chains, and about 45% of companies have begun to re-evaluate their supply chain layout and consider increasing the proportion of local or regional suppliers.
- E-commerce develops by leaps and bounds:Global e-commerce penetration has achieved growth equivalent to the past few years during the epidemic, and changes in consumers' online shopping habits are irreversible.
- Enterprise digitalization investment surges:Passive digital transformation is turning into active strategic investment, and enterprises are significantly increasing their spending in areas such as cloud computing, data analysis, and automation.
- Health and safety have become a new business value dimension:Consumers and employees are more concerned about health and safety than ever before, and this trend is reshaping product design, service delivery and work environment standards.
Inspiration for businesses
The report emphasizes that although the epidemic has brought huge uncertainties, it has also created new opportunities for forward-looking and adaptable companies. The society recommends that companies combine short-term responses with long-term strategies, actively embrace digital transformation, and at the same time strengthen organizational resilience building to prepare for business competition in the post-epidemic era. The society will also continue to pay attention to the evolution of the global business landscape and release follow-up research results in a timely manner.
